Book Description
On New Year's Eve 1961, the first broadcast of the Irish television service was made amidst great concern about the possible negative impact television could have on Irish political, social, and intellectual life. In this book, Professor Robert J. Savage traces the struggles in the 1950s between those who sought a government-controlled service and those who favored commercial television. Out of the decade-long debate came the policies that determined the substance and character of Irish television as it exists today.
