About the Author
Melvin Helitzer is a professor in the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University where he teaches zports publicity, promotion and public relations in the university's prestigious graduate school of sports and recreation. He was formerly a sports writer for several major newspapers and the Associated Press. For 30 years, he headed his own Madison Avenue (NYC) public relations and advertising agency where he counseled such clients as A. G. Spalding and numerous other sports equipment manufacturers. He joined the faculty of Ohio University in 1979, is the author of five books and awarded the honorary title of one of the university's most distinquished professors.
